Going to chew on this whole concept more later, but just wanted to say thank you for that reminder to pause and listen. As I was reading this, I took note of the sounds around me and it was quite beautiful. I just pulled into my parking spot at the foodservice distribution company where I work. I turned off my vehicle, and the sun is warmly streaming through onto the left side of my face & chest through the rolled up window. I hear birds chirping & a the distant cry of a train whistle from the tracks about a half mile away. I imagine some of my coworkers may be stuck there awaiting its passing before being allowed to cross and get to work. They will be tardy, but that will be their excuse. I hear air brakes hissing & reverse gears beeping on big rigs as they take their positions in the departure line, and the sound of generators whirring to keep the refrigerator compartments on the delivery trucks icy cold before heading out to make their food deliveries for the day. Because of your prompting, I realize this is not just the sounds of this little 6 acre parcel of the city where I live, but it’s so much more. The ripple effect of a seemingly simple food delivery to a restaurant will provide not only the owner with product to earn revenue, but it will provide the person dining there with an enjoyable memory of a meal with a friend or family member. Or perhaps just basic sustenance to help a solo diner get through to the next task they must accomplish. And perhaps those moments shared together or the tasks completed will somehow change this person’s day, their life, & maybe make a difference in the world on a grand scale. Wow! Thanks for giving me pause to look beyond myself & realize what my small part plays in a big big world. Have a wonderful day! 💚
